Iwaki, Fukushima

This tour takes you to the mountain area of Iwaki City, Fukushima which covers a vast area, to experience the richness of nature and the religious beliefs that are deeply rooted in the lives of the people who live there.
Spend an unforgettable time away from your daily life, facing yourself in the great outdoors, or enjoying your time with your family and friends in beautiful nature.

What to expect

First day, you’ll visit the farm of Mr. Shiraishi, a farmer who has been in his business since the 15th century. While listening to stories of how he overcame the earthquake which happened in 2011 and flood damage, we tour his fields and greenhouses. You can harvest seasonal vegetables grown with a commitment to “natural farming”.

After you enjoy local farm experiences with locals, it’s time for you to enjoy camping at a campsite with almost no signal, and spend time away from electronic devices to cherish the present moment. As a dinner, you will have a special BBQ which includes local vegetables produced in Fukushima and meat. You will spend a wonderful night time appreciating the starry sky while relaxing by the campfire and savoring the extraordinary.

Second day, you will experience a faith in nature by hiking at the mountains and 33 Kannon, which is a pilgrimage of thirty-three Buddhist temples, placed at the source of the stones.  After you stroll through the mountain, you will visit the Akaidake Jofukuji Temple ,which has a 1200 years history as a place of faith. There is a Ryuton cedar, which is said to be over 1,000 years old. This tour will conclude with an Ajikan experience, a form of breathing exercise and meditation practiced in Buddhism, inside the temple.
