Nagatoro Station
I’ve seen a lot of nature and a lot of history on trips to Japan, but nothing thus far has combined the two quite like the Iwadatami rocks of Nagatoro. Pictures really can’t capture the unique texture of the rocks, which had me under their spell from start to finish. Talking to my guide, I learned that the strange formations were the result of millions of years of geological change. I couldn’t help but feel like I was walking on the back of a long dead dinosaur or something jutting out from the earth. Gamera, maybe. Very appropriate for Japan. Anyhow, this is a must visit for those who want to not only catch some pretty scenery, but also learn about the cool science behind it.
We had a great time on this walking tour. Nagatoro is such a beautiful place, and it was nice to explore it at a relaxed pace. The guide was knowledgeable and attentive, and we learned many things we would never have noticed on our own. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the area.
