Through this Japanese candle-making workshop, you can experience the history and spirit of Kyoto. This is a rare opportunity to witness a traditional craft technique that has been carefully preserved by one of Japan’s few remaining artisans for over 125 years.

What is Warosoku?
Warosoku are traditional Japanese candles made entirely from plant-based materials such as rice bran wax and the fruit of the wax tree. They are distinguished by their unique concave shape, bright and steady flame, and minimal smoke or odor—reflecting sustainability and compassion toward nature.
With a long history rooted in Buddhist temples and daily life, Warosoku continue to be handcrafted by skilled artisans using techniques passed down for generations.
Unlike Western candles, Warosoku flames sway broadly and gracefully. Please take a moment to enjoy their serene and living light.
